Kirsten Dunst Takes Role Opposite Sydney Sweeney In Paul Feig’s ‘The Housemaid’s Secret’

After recently landing a key role in “A Minecraft Movie 2,” actress Kirsten Dunst is officially set to take part in Lionsgate‘s “The Housemaid” sequel, co-starring Sydney Sweeney, as the first installment did exceptionally well with audiences and is based on “The Housemaid’s Secret” from a string of sexy thriller novels penned by author Freida McFadden.

Director Paul Feig returns to direct with Dunst and Sweeney (back playing Millie) on the call-sheet. Screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine is adapting the second McFadden book for Feig/Lionsgate after being tasked to tackle the first film. That’s not it as Michele Morrone is also set to reprise the role of Enzo in the gestating sequel.

An offical logline for the follow-up story, courtesy of Lionsgate:

In “The Housemaid’s Secret,” Millie returns, taking a job keeping house for a woman she’s never allowed to see—only to discover the truth behind the locked door that threatens to expose secrets far darker than her own.

Some of Dunst’s more recent film credits include “Roofman,” “Power of the Dog,” “Civil War,” and is part of the cast of the upcoming Ruben Östlund pic, “The Entertainment System Is Down.” The latter recently got a delay and won’t be ready in time of the Cannes Film Festival.

A team of producers on “The Housemaid’s Secret” will consist of Todd Lieberman (Hidden Pcitures), Feig and Laura Fischer (through their banner Pretty Dangerous Pictures), and Sweeney (Fifty-Fifty Films) alongside executive producers Carly Elter and Alex Young. Fifty Fifty’s Kaylee McGregor will also co-produce the new pic.

Released back in December, “The Housemaid” saw Sweeney co-starring with Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar ending up raking in an impressive $395.7 million at the global box office. So, a sequel getting a greenlight was a no-brainer. We have to assume that the other novel “The Housemaid Is Watching” could be an option for a third picture, rounding out a trilogy (if Lionsgate is keen on the idea).
