‘Rogue Squadron’: Patty Jenkins To Direct Newly Announced ‘Star Wars’ Film Coming Christmas 2023

The Star Wars Universe is growing, and the latest announcement from Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy reveals a brand new film that certainly surprised a lot of us as “Wonder Woman” director Patty Jenkins is officially set to helm Star Wars: Rogue Squadron. A film that focuses on a group of Rebellion pilots and is expected to feature a multitude of aerial dog fights, the space battle in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was easily one of the highlights of the film, and I’m sure the new film will expand upon it.

This will make Patty Jenkins the first female director to tackle a live-action Star Wars feature film and certainly would explain her incoming hiatus between Wonder Woman installments, as she hinted at a break from the world of DC Comics before making Wonder Woman 3, and now we know why.

Patty also posted the following video on Twitter expressing her excitement about the upcoming Star Wars project.

While there was zero mention of either Wedge Antilles or Luke Skywalker being involved in the film, it’s a possibility given their connection to the team and Lucasfilm’s love for bringing back beloved characters from all corners of the Star Wars Universe. Fans had been calling for a Rogue Squadron movie going back to the days when Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Solo: A Star Wars Story were first announced by the studio.

A timetable for a production start wasn’t mentioned, but in all likelihood, they’ll want to begin shooting before the summer/fall of 2022.
