‘White Lies’: Michael Douglas, Willem Dafoe & Ellen Barkin Join Josh Hartnett In Oliver Stone’s Drama, First Feature Since 2016’s ‘Snowden’

Veteran filmmaker Oliver Stone has completed filming on (shooting in various countries in Europe and Asia) his first scripted feature film since his 2016 true-events espionage flick “Snowden,” after a decade-long hiatus, and the project titled “White Lies” has Josh Hartnett (“Oppenheimer”) in the lead role.

Thankfully, there is a great supporting cast built around Hartnett as Michael Douglas (“Wall Street,” “The Game”), Willem Dafoe (“The Lighthouse,” “Poor Things”), and Ellen Barkin (“Animal Kingdom”) have roles in the movie. Also, as revealed by Variety, we’ll see Richard Gere‘s son Homer Gere (“Euophoria”) and Yvonne Chapman (the “Kung-Fu” reboot series) among the cast.

A synopsis mentioned in the report:

“‘White Lies’ follows Jack Freeman (Hartnett), a child of divorce who is repeating his parents’ mistakes in his own marriage and with his own children. He embarks on a lust-filled journey to escape, only to find himself more lost than before. Things change when he meets a woman whose life is the opposite of his own.”

Other modern projects from Stone in previous years include the Don Winslow adaptation “Savages,” the Josh Brolin-led George W. Bush biopic “W,” and his “Wall Street” sequel “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps,” which reunited him with Douglas, who co-starred with Shia LeBeouf and Brolin. Stone and Douglas’ longtime working relationship also included the Vietnam War dramas “Platoon” and “Born On The Fourth of July.”

“The cast was a delight from beginning to end. And the Italian crew was the warmest I ever worked with. I’m profoundly grateful for this opportunity,” Stone shared in a statement shared by the outlet.
