The second season of Bradley Ingelsby‘s (“Mare of Easttown”) “Task” is coming together after the return of Mark Ruffalo was announced, with two-time Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali joining him in the multi-agent task force called in when local cops can’t handle certain cases. The last season focused on a group of thieves ripping off drug dealers, leading to a kidnapping case. We’re learning more about the season two casting lineup after four actors were enlisted for new parts.
Some other names mentioned alongside new addition Edgar Ramírez (“Zero Dark Thirty”) in the casting update from Deadline will be Harry Melling (“Pillion”), Adam Nagaitis (“The Terror,” “Gunpowder Milkshake”), and Aminah Nieves (“1923,” “A House of Dynamite”), taking supporting roles in the next batch of episodes for the highly anticipated crime series.
Ali is set for the role of Eddie Barnes, “a seasoned and well-respected DEA agent in Philadelphia whose team comes into conflict with the unit” of Ruffalo’s Tom Brandis. Mentioned in the new reporting, we’ll see Ramírez inhabiting the role of Miguel Contreras, “a devoted family man and loyal DEA second-in-command, torn between duty and guilt.”
An official synopsis for the first season of the show from HBO:
Set in the working-class suburbs of Philadelphia, an FBI agent (Mark Ruffalo) heads a Task Force to put an end to a string of violent robberies led by an unsuspecting family man (Tom Pelphrey).
We’re sure that critics and fans of “Task” alike are hopeful that this could end up as a procedural crime show that will get multiple seasons, and not take as long to come together as something like “True Detective.” You might remember that actress Kate Winslet had also teased about a follow-up season of “Mare of Easttown” earlier in the year, which happens to also take place in the same universe of “Task,” as confirmed by Ingelsby. Maybe a crossover episode or season could be in the cards?
