“Andor” actress Adria Arjona has been hired by writer/director James Gunn and DC Studios for their upcoming “Superman” sequel, “Man of Tomorrow,” nabbing a key role after a round of auditions in Atlanta, where the follow-up is expected to be filmed.
This casting update hails from The Hollywood Reporter, which also named other candidates in the auditioning group, including Grace Van Patten, Sydney Chandler, and Eva De Dominici. A great get for the project, as Arjona is a talented actress that the comic book movie audience would already be familiar with from the mega-popular “Star Wars” series, “Andor.”

At the time of the original reporting from last week, trades had been pushing the narrative that the role was for Maxima (THR still believes this may be the role), an alien Queen that mirrors Superman’s extreme power-set and has been both a friend (a canonical member of The Justice League) and foe (a reculant cohort of Brainiac) in the comics.
Given that Brainiac is expected to be the main threat of the film, having Maxima makes sense, as lesser-known DC characters to the general public were obviously given their time to shine in “Superman,” such as Mister Terrific, Hawk Girl, and Metamorpho. The sequel will also feature Aaron Pierre’s Green Lantern iteration of John Stewart, who will debut in HBO Max’s “Lanterns” (leading fans to speculate the project is the next step toward a new cinematic Justice League lineup).
Others online have theorized Arjona could be playing the DCU version of Diana Prince/Wonder Woman after there was a groundswell from fans for her to replace Gal Gadot as the beloved DC heroine, and Gunn backing the fan-casting. However, the glaring problem with that Wonder Woman idea is that Gunn specifically took to his Threads account back in January to pour cold water on rumors he was casting Wonder Woman and Batman for “Man of Tomorrow” and specifically denied either would be showing up in it (despite a new solo “Wonder Woman” movie being in the works from the “Supergirl” screenwriter).
“Man of Tomorrow” has already received an official release date of July 9, 2027. And with production looming, we likely will hear more names added to the call sheet alongside Pierre, Arjona, David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, and Lars Eidinger, who is set to play Brainiac for Gunn. Stay tuned for those updates as they roll in.
