Amazon MGM Studios recently landed full creative control of the James Bond film rights, but the studio is also betting big on actor Michael B. Jordan. The “Sinners” star is gearing up to both direct and act in a modern remake of “The Thomas Crown Affair,” and the studio (via THR) has set the film’s release in regular theaters and IMAX on March 5, 2027.
A seductive millionaire art thief who is just as interested in romantic encounters as stealing priceless pieces of art for profit. The role of Thomas Crown had been previously played by iconic action stars Steve McQueen and Pierce Brosnan (during the height of his fame as Bond), with Faye Dunaway as Vicki and Rene Russo as Catherine in those other iterations.
Canadian actress Taylor Russell (“Bones & All,” Lost In Space”) is set to co-star opposite Jordan in the remake that was penned by Drew Pearce (“The Fall Guy”) after Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson wrote a previous draft of the script.
While not automatically thought of as a top-tier action film, the 1968 original was written by Alan Trustman and directed by the late Canadian filmmaker Norman Jewison (“Fiddler On The Roof”). John McTiernan, known for “Die Hard” and “Predator,” ended up helming the 1999 incarnation.
Jordan and Amazon MGM Studios are collaborating on more projects with Chad Stahelski (“Highlander,” “John Wick” franchise) attached to direct Jordan in an adaptation of Tom Clancy‘s “Rainbow Six” as it will see a continuation of the John Clark saga that was launched with “Without Remorse” and Jordan is set to direct/star “Creed IV” as well for the studio that may or may not bring Jonathan Majors‘ troubled boxer back.
While the Russo Brothers were initially involved with the remake as producers, their names aren’t in the new reporting.
With a release date set, we should start hearing more names being added to the call sheet as the rest of the supporting cast is assembled for “The Thomas Crown Affair.”
