Writer/director Jordan Peele, his production banner Monkeypaw Productions, and Universal Pictures had signed on for a development deal that isn’t set to expire until 2030, and there have been some hiccups concerning his latest secretive feature film (we assume will be another ambitious genre project that may or may not have horror elements). The untitled movie had shuffled the release from Christmas 2024 to October 2026, but it doesn’t look to be ready for that spot either. However, there is now a bit of a good sign that things may be pushing forward in the coming months.
The folks over at Puck News have shared a minor tidbit, which should be enough to keep us satisfied until bigger news makes it our way, but Peele is said to have completed the script for his follow-up to 2022’s “Nope.” What isn’t entirely known is when cameras will roll (Universal pulled it from its slate but hasn’t given it a new date, as mentioned above) or what the cast will look like.

“I’m told there’s a script, and Universal is on board, but news of a release date or casting isn’t expected for a few months,” journalist Matt Belloni said in the report, giving us the best update of recent memory.
This sounds like that with a script in hand, the next steps could finally happen, but until we hear from Peele and Universal themselves, we won’t get too excited. Yet, this update is certainly making us a tad more optimistic than we have been in the past year after the radio silence and lack of updates (until now).
Some of the wayward projects from Jordan Peele include rumblings that he was trying to convince Disney to allow him to make a live-action film based on their cartoon series “Gargoyles,” and was once officially in the mix to oversee the long-gestating live-action “Akira” movie at Warner Bros. (studio had been trying to get that going since 2002 with Stephen Norrington of “Blade” fame), which most recently had Kiwi filmmaker Taika Waititi (“Klara & The Sun”) attached before it looked to be finally snuffed out and Jordan would include the “Akira” motorcycle slide in “Nope” as a direct nod to the landmark anime pic.
