Ryan Reynolds Denies Deadpool Appearing In 'Doctor Strange 2': "I'm Promising, I'm Not In The Movie"

Marvel is pushing for the multiverse to become the next big event in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, similar to their focus on the Infinity Stones leading up to Thanos using the Infinity Gauntlet to kill half the universe. Jonathan Majors‘ Kang could be the next looming threat and that means many upcoming films will use the multiverse for various reasons. One possibility is using it for the introduction of characters newly acquired by the studio such as ones from “The Fantastic Four,” “Deadpool,” and “X-Men” franchises.

A prevailing theory has been “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” could be an entry point for a character like Ryan Renyolds‘ Wade Wilson from the “Deadpool” movies. The actor has revealed to Variety, while promoting “The Adam Project,” he will not be appearing in the upcoming sequel by downplaying the fan rumor.

“I guess I’m really not supposed to say anything about that, but I’m really not in the movie,” Reynolds told Variety. When the outlet suggested he could be lying, Reynolds insisted, “I could be an unreliable narrator, but I’m promising, I’m not in the movie.”

A growing assumption of Deadpool’s involvement was amplified when Patrick Stewart‘s Professor Charles Xavier was presumably heard speaking in the latest Super Bowl trailer, potentially adding the MCU’s first mutant. Fans had been squinting real hard to make a super blurry Deadpool appear on the film’s poster, but if Reynolds is to be believed, it could be another “WandaVision” situation. As folks thought a poster was teasing the devilish villain Mephisto but ultimately wasn’t.

Something that was indeed spotted on the poster clear as a bell, the shield of Hayley Atwell‘s Captain Carter (bottom right of Strange), an important cog in the animated Disney+ series “What If…?” that saw Agent Peggy Carter become a super-soldier in WWII instead of Chris Evans‘ Steve Rogers. We have to assume that was done on purpose and that a live-action incarnation is coming.
