‘At The Sea’: Amy Adams To Star In New Family Drama From ‘Pieces Of A Woman’ Director Kornel Mundruczó

Oscar-nominated actress Amy Adams was everywhere over the last decade, but the actress seemingly took a beat after a busy 2021. Since 2022’s “Disenchanted,” the actress hasn’t appeared in anything, not one film or TV project. That changes in 2024 with at least one movie scheduled for December (“Night Bitch”) and another filming now (Taika Waititi’sKlara and the Sun”). And perhaps in a sign that she’ll be back to a regular pace, the actress has landed her next gig.

Deadline reports that Adams will star “At The Sea,” from acclaimed Hungarian director Kornel Mundruczó and screenwriter Kata Wéber (the pair worked together on “Pieces of A Womanand “White God”).

The outlet’s report produced a brief synopsis of the family drama without giving away too much:

“‘At The Sea’ follows the life of Laura (Adams) after a long rehabilitation, as she returns to her family at their beach holiday home, where she has to readjust to the complicated life she left behind. Now, she is forced to face the following next chapter of her life without the career that gave her fame, fortune, and, most importantly, identity.

The production/studio team in the mix with “At The Sea” includes Hammerstone StudiosRyder Picture Company, and AR Content.

Vanessa Kirby, who starred in Mundruczó’s “Pieces of A Woman,” earned a Best Actress nomination in 2021 for her performance, which could spell similar potential awards consideration for Adams and “At The Sea.”

Between 2006 and 2019, Adams was nominated by the Academy six times (landing a single Best Actress nomination in 2014 for “American Hustle,” the rest categorized under supporting turns). Her last nomination was Best Supporting Actress for Adam McKay’s “Vice,” and it just seems like a matter of time before she finally wins the prize.

Interestingly enough, Adams could have nearly starred in “Pieces of A Woman,” which she revealed during a Netflix For Your Consideration conversation with Kirby. Filming on “At The Sea” is said to begin production this June in Boston, so if we’re lucky, it could be a 2025 contender.
