‘In A Violent Nature’ Trailer: Unsettling Horror Revenge Pic Hits May 31

IFC Films released a new trailer for the new revenge horror film “In A Violent Nature” that the studio will release exclusively in theaters on May 31. The terrifying movie— reported to have made some audience members violently ill and vomit recently— focuses on a resurrected corpse named Johnny that brutally kills, trying to get back his locket after it’s removed from his tomb in the woods. It’s a concept that efficiently works in favor of lower-budget projects.

Filmmaker Chris Nash (“ABCs of Death 2”) writes and directs the project with a cast that consists of Ry Barrett, Andrea Pavlovic, Cameron Love, Reece Presley, Liam Leone, Charlotte Creaghan, Lea Rose Sebastianis, Sam Roulston, Alexander Oliver, and Lauren Taylor.

Here’s the film’s official synopsis:

When a locket is removed from a collapsed fire tower in the woods that entombs the rotting corpse of Johnny, a vengeful spirit spurred on by a horrific 60-year-old crime, his body is resurrected, and he becomes hellbent on retrieving it. The undead golem hones in on the group of vacationing teens responsible for the theft and proceeds to methodically slaughter them one by one in his mission to get it back – along with anyone in his way.

Nash is a rising talent in the realm of genre filmmaker and worked on the Canadian-made gonzo sci-fi action gorefest “Psycho Goreman,” providing the special effects for the brutal but entertaining satire. I’m sure horror fans will have a great time with this one, given Nash’s connection to other indie-level horror movies and the pic previously screening at Sundance.

The Playlist’s review from Sundance called the filmmaker a new voice in horror and that the violent genre flick is “shock without schlock.” The latter is quite the compliment, given how many low-budget horror films don’t put in the kind of effort you’d hope.
