While Walt Disney Studios is said to be slowing down on turning their extensive animation library into risky and expensive live-action adaptations, the company is still releasing traditional animated projects, and one coming to theaters in November is the highly anticipated “Zootopia 2.”
Disney has dropped a new teaser trailer for the sequel, which sees Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman return to their furry detective roles of Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde in the follow-up, hailing from writer/director Jared Bush (co-director/co-writer “Zootopia,” director/co-writer “Encanto”).
Others on the voice cast lineup are Oscar-winner Ke Huy Quan (“Everything Everywhere All At Once”), Quinta Brunson (“Abbott Elementary“), comedian Fortune Feimster (“FUBAR”), and pop star Shakira.
An official logline for “Zootopia” courtesy of Disney:
Detectives Judy Hopps (Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Bateman) find themselves on the twisting trail of a mysterious reptile who arrives in Zootopia and turns the mammal metropolis upside down. To crack the case, Judy and Nick must go undercover to unexpected new parts of town, where their growing partnership is tested like never before.
The original, released back in 2016, ended up earning Disney a massive $1 billion-plus at the global box office, and there is plenty of room to make that kind of bank with this new installment, given how well Pixar‘s “Inside Out 2” did last year (amassing an impressive $1.7 billion, nearly doubling the first movie’s take). Only time will tell if audiences will shell out that kind of money for this next pic from the House of Mouse.
You can watch the new trailer for the latest animated Disney pic below as “Zootopia 2” hits theaters on November 26.
