Mia Goth Tapped For Mystery Role In Marvel's 'Blade'

British actress Mia Goth is quickly cementing herself as a modern scream queen with roles in horror pics like “A Cure For Wellness,” “Suspiria,” “X,” “Pearl,” Brandon Cronenberg‘s creepy flick “Infinity Pool,” and the latest Ti West installment “MaXXXine.” Goth is now sinking her teeth into another horror project, but this one is coming from Marvel Studios with their “Blade” reboot from director Yann Demange (“White Boy Rick“).

The news hails from Deadline as Goth will join two-time Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali in the Marvel Studios reboot in an undisclosed role. Other supporting cast members announced previously for “Blade” include veteran actor Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre.

We’re in the dark about who Goth is playing but there are plenty of female characters from within the “Tomb of Dracula” and overallcomic books that Goth could be playing from fellow vampire hunter Rachel van Helsing, Dracula’s daughter Lilith Drake, another major horror baddie that uses the name Lilith with The Mother of Demons (An antagonist seen in the recent video game “Midnight Suns“), various vampires (gender swapped version of Blade’s cohort Hannibal King?), and Whistler’s daughter Abigail that was played by Jessica Biel in “Blade Trinity.”

“Blade” focuses on a human-vampire hybrid named Eric Brooks, but referred to as the Daywalker by the vampires he hunts/kills as he’s unaffected by sunlight, garlic, and silver making him less vulnerable than his suck-head counterparts. Brooks’ mentor Whistler helps keep their small but global vampire slaying organization up and running with high-tech weapons, cars, motorcycles, and other gadgets. The franchise led by action star Wesley Snipes first popped in 1998 when the first film from director Stephen Norrington become a modest hit leading to two subsequent sequels along with a short-lived television and anime series. It quickly became known for it’s mixing of horror elements with somewhat similar Hong Kong-level action sequences and costume esthetics that mirrored “The Matrix,” a full year before it was released.

While “Deadpool 3” is confirmed to be Marvel’s first high-profile film with an R-rating, signs are starting to point towards the “Blade” reboot shrugging-off the franchise’s longstanding mature violence and cussing for a potential PG-13 setting. Although, Marvel hasn’t completely confirmed that’s the plan after the film’s script penned by Stacy Osei-Kuffour (“Watchmen,” “Hunters”) got an overhaul from screenwriter Michael Starrbury (“When They See Us“) after filmmaker Bassam Tariq stepped away from “Blade” back in September with Damange stepping in to replace him.

The studio has given “Blade” a late summer release date of September 6, 2024 and we’ll keep our fingers crossed the project isn’t further delayed.
