‘Harold & Kumar 4’: Sequel To Beloved R-Rated Buddy Stoner Comedy Coming From ‘Cobra Kai’ Creators

A fourth “Harold & Kumar” movie is happening! After the team behind the hit Netflix martial arts series “Cobra Kai” has wrapped up the “Karate Kid” spinoff revival, they’re returning to their buddy stoner comedy franchise with news that they’re working on “Harold & Kumar 4” for Lionsgate‘s Mandate Pictures.

This update comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which has learned that Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald are set to write and direct the untitled comedy (referred to as “Harold & Kumar 4” for the time being). Seeing the trio of writers returning to the franchise they helped create, which hasn’t seen a theatrical release since 2011.

The main gist of the movies is that audiences follow the pot-fueled adventures of longtime pals Harold Lee and Kumar Patel, who get up to all sorts of outrageous hijinks, with the original movie from 2004 being about their quest to eat a bunch of burgers from the fast-food chain White Castle.

Previously, we’ve seen three feature films starring John Cho and Kal Penn with “Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle,” “Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay” (helmed by Hurwitz and Schlossberg), and the holiday-themed “A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas.”

While there are expectations that Cho and Penn will reprise their respective roles of Harold and Kumar, what isn’t known is if Neil Patrick Harris (“The Matrix Resurrections”), who has played a key part in the franchise with a satirical version of himself, will be showing up.

“We’re fired up to bring Harold and Kumar back in a return to the unapologetically R-rated, smoke-filled chaos that started it all,” Hurwitz and Schlossberg said jointly in a statement posted by THR. “It’s high time they puff and pass their wisdom onto a new generation. Just don’t tell their kids.”
