‘The Naked Gun’ Trailer: Buckle Up, This August Justice Has A New Daddy

Canadian comedic actor Leslie Nielsen was once the face of The Zucker Brothers‘ “The Naked Gun” franchise and a new legacy sequel led by Liam Neeson is coming to theaters on August 1, as Paramount Pictures has released another trailer for the satirical crime flick.

Instead of a traditional reboot, the new pic we’ll see Neeson playing the son of Nielsen’s Frank Drebin, and other characters will see their sons take up their badges as a group of legacy police officers. Neeson’s relationship with producer Seth MacFarlane on “Ted 2” and “A Thousand Ways To Die In The West” would explain the Oscar-winner’s turn to a parody cop role in a pic directed by Lonely Island member Akiva Schaffer.

Joining the case are fellow cast members Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, CCH Pounder, Kevin Durand, Cody Rhodes, Liza Koshy, Eddie Yu, and Danny Huston.

An official logline from Paramount:

Only one man has the particular set of skills… to lead Police Squad and save the world! Lt. Frank Drebin Jr. (Liam Neeson) follows in his father’s footsteps in “The Naked Gun,” directed by Akiva Schaffer (“Saturday Night Live,” Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping) and from producer Seth MacFarlane (“Ted,” “Family Guy”).

Dan Gregor, Doug Mand, and Schaffer are behind the new pic’s script with a producing team that features MacFarlane, Erica Huggins, Daniel M. Stillman, Schaffer, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro, and Andrew Lary.
