Every force has its equal. Brad Ingelsby, the creator and showrunner of the acclaimed Kate Winslet miniseries “Mare of Easttown,” is back with a new crime series, “Task,” set in the Philadelphia area, led by Mark Ruffalo (“I Know This To Be True”), as the actor plays Tom, a veteran FBI agent investigating a string of violent robberies in the city’s working-class suburbs.
The latest miniseries is set to debut next month, and HBO has dropped a new trailer for “Task,” spotlighting the tone audiences can expect from the new project from Ingelsby (said to be set in the same world as “Mare” as the Pennsylvania crime saga expands).
Some of the supporting cast of “Task” features Tom Pelphrey, Emilia Jones, Jamie McShane, Sam Keeley, Thuso Mbedu, Fabien Frankel, Alison Oliver, Raúl Castillo, Silvia Dionicio, Phoebe Fox, and Martha Plimpton.
A logline for the series courtesy of HBO:
Set in the working-class suburbs of Philadelphia, an FBI agent (Mark Ruffalo) heads a Task Force to put an end to a string of violent robberies led by an unsuspecting family man (Tom Pelphrey).
Back in December, Ingelsby extended his overall deal with HBO for another three years, which likely means we’ll be getting more projects from the creative down the line, whether that ultimately leads to a follow-up to “Mare” remains to be seen.
Ruffalo was recently announced as part of the cast of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” reprising the Hulk/Bruce Banner role in the MCU romp from director Destin Daniel Cretton, alongside joining other film projects such as Sian Heder‘s disability rights drama “Being Heumann,” the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios‘ crime thriller “Crime 101” (co-starring Chris Hemsworth, Halle Berry, and Barry Keoghan) based on the Don Winslow novella of the same name, and Lena Dunham‘s rom-com “Good Sex,” led by Natalie Portman and is at Netflix.
Check out that aforementioned trailer for “Task” below, with weekly episodes airing on HBO and streaming on HBO Max (formerly Max), starting September 7.
