Christian Bale Confirms He Will Be Appearing In Michael Mann’s ‘Heat 2’

After reports of actors Christian Bale and Leonardo DiCaprio circling lead roles in Michael Mann‘s “Heat 2,” there is confirmation from the former about their involvement in the action-packed sequel after interviewer Jake Hamilton posted on social media that the Welsh actor said he was shooting the pic in Chicago while shooting a segment for Fox 32 News (we have to assume for a promotional interview for his upcoming pic “The Bride” co-starring with Jessie Buckley that debuts in theaters on March 6).

Bale and Mann would be reuniting after the two worked on the period gangster epic “Public Enemies,” which explored the early days of the FBI, focusing their efforts on the scourge of bank robberies and the charismatic but deadly gangsters behind that massive crime wave. A link-up for “Heat 2” has been reported on previously, but we’re beyond thrilled that Bale is indeed involved.

Of course, “Heat 2” won’t be a traditional sequel as Mann’s book (the film is now based on and was co-authored by Meg Gardiner) establishes a new story that will feature two different eras, one that takes place years before the 1995 film in the 1980s, and another in the early 2000s. It also moves the setting outside of Los Angeles, and we’re still waiting on confirmation if the locations beyond Chicago (Detective Vincent Hanna’s stomping ground as a cop before moving to California) are going to be exactly the same as in the novel.

Whatever the case, we’re expecting quite a lineup of actors taking big and small parts in the project, given the film’s legacy as one of the best action movies of the 1990s and potentially in the running for an all-time banger as well.

Some other actors that had once been linked to “Heat 2” roles, such as Adam Driver (worked with Mann on the biopic “Ferrari“) and Austin Butler, have yet to be formally announced, and despite DiCaprio being named he’s currently busy with Scorsese’s ghost flick “What Happens At Night ” that sees him co-starring alongside Jennifer Lawrence and Mads Mikkelsen. That said, there is a good shot that the project is going to attract a fair amount of well-known talent.

Also, another name popped up from the outlet Nexus Point News, which said back in December that recent Emmy-winner Stephen Graham (“Adolescence”) was looking to join the project as well. Graham, you may remember, had a minor supporting role in “Public Enemies” as a version of Babyface Nelson, before going on to play Al Capone in HBO‘s hit series “Boardwalk Empire” and portraying a union gangster in Martin Scorsese‘s “The Irishman.” As the British actor certainly has the resume needed to play any sort of criminal character in a project like “Heat 2.”
