‘Good Fortune’ Trailer: Gig Economy Comedy Stars Aziz Ansari, Keanu Reeves & Seth Rogen Coming Out October 17

Coming off its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, Aziz Ansari‘s “Good Fortune” is heading to theaters next month and has landed a new trailer as it stars Ansari, who also directs and co-wrote, as a gig-worker and is assigned a rookie guardian angel played by Keanu Reeves.

Other actors among the cast include Seth Rogen (“The Studio”), Keke Palmer (“The Pickup”), Sandra Oh (“Killing Eve”), and Stephen McKinley Henderson (“Civil War,” “Dune”), quite the impressive group assembled for “Good Fortune.”

An official logline for the comedic pic via Lionsgate:

A well-meaning but rather inept angel named Gabriel (Keanu Reeves) meddles in the lives of a struggling gig worker (Aziz Ansari) and a wealthy venture capitalist (Seth Rogen).

Speaking with Esquire Magazine about his desire to make a film that tackled economic differences as the project eventually morphed into a comedy, Ansari said, “One guy made a bunch of money in tech or whatever. Has this giant house, pool, the whole thing. And the other guy’s the guy that’s been screwed by the last 20 years. Student debt, maybe lost his job during COVID. He’s struggling to get by, and it’s a frustration that is widespread right now, in what the country is at the moment. What happens when their worlds collide?…Eventually I got to the place where I thought the idea of this angel coming and intervening in his life and trying to show him that having the life of the other guy isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, and him rejecting that idea, would be very fun.”

The Playlist’s TIFF review for the film from this month called it “a refreshing comedy” that does a good job of exploring the “wildly uneven economy” in America, as gig workers are doing side jobs because their regular salaries aren’t cutting it, as costs are increasing when wages are not.

Ansari, Anthony Katagas, Alan Yang, Aniz Adam Ansari, Jonathan McCoy, Christopher Woodrow, and Connor DiGregorio make up the film’s producing team.

That said, you can watch the latest trailer for “Good Fortune” as the comedy arrives on October 17.
