Sam Raimi "Open" To 'Spider-Man 4' As Tobey Maguire Joins 'Babylon'

After giving us his original “Spider-Man” trilogy, it’s exciting for many comic book movie fans that director Sam Raimi‘s finally returning to the world of Marvel Comics Raimi is in the director’s chair for the upcoming “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness” allowing him to play the biggest sandbox in modern cinema, the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And while that film is starting to bubble with anticipation and is only a few short weeks away, Raimi isn’t closing the door on more Marvel, more specifically, his old Spider-Man character.

Currently out promoting the Marvel sequel, when speaking to Moviepilot and asked, Raimi said he’s “completely open” to reuniting with Tobey Maguire for a hypothetical “Spider-Man 4” as The Multiverse opens up many possibilities. Maguire, of course, recently reprised the Peter Parker role in the massive box office hit “Spider-Man: No Way Home” leading many to suspect the studio is open to a continuation of that character and storyline.

“I didn’t think it was possible,” he explained. “But after jumping back in with the multiverse. I realized that anything is possible now so I’m completely open to it.”

You might remember that Sony pulled the plug on his original version of “Spider-Man 4” just before cameras were set to roll. Sneakily enough, producers and executives had a backup plan waiting in the wings, an “Amazing Spider-Man‘ reboot, and a script that was already written. That film would eventually star Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. That fourth Raimi/Spiedy installment had been looking to add John Malkovich and Anne Hathway in key roles.

Raimi also said in the interview he’s not currently attached to any other Marvel projects, but who knows, that could change soon depending on the box office for “Doctor Strange 2.” However, that statement would seemingly pour cold water on various online rumors that Raimi has already signed on to make more superhero projects.

Speaking of Maguire, it’s been revealed at CinemaCon 2022 via Variety that he’ll be playing iconic film star Charlie Chaplin in Damien Chazelle‘s next movie “Babylon” which has Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie in lead roles and is set for a December 25 release date. The film is said to be a look at classic Hollywood in the 1920s and 30s so Chaplin fits the bill there. Chaplin was one of the few silent film stars that was able to transition to the talkies. The rest of the all-star cast consists of Max Minghella, Spike Jonze, Jean Smart, Flea, Samara Weaving, and Olivia Wilde.

“Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness” comes out on May 6 and you can watch the full interview with Moviepilot below.
