‘Secret Invasion’ Teaser Trailer: Samuel L. Jackson Leads A Skrulls Invasion Series Coming In 2023 [D23]

While Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury has been in eleven MCU films to date – including pretty significant roles in “Spider-Man: Far From Home” and “Captain Marvel” – the character’s never had a solo movie before. That isn’t changing with Marvel’s “Secret Invasion,” an upcoming limited series, but it’s the closest we’ve come so far.

“Secret Invasion” will see Fury reunited with the Skrull Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) after the pair worked together in the 1990s-set “Captain Marvel.” During his Comic-Con panel earlier this summer, Don Cheadle was officially confirmed as the newest cast member in the series, making “Secret Invasion” arguably the most star-studded of the Disney+ spinoffs to date. During that same panel, much was also made by Kevin Feige and Colbie Smulders — also returning as Agent Maria Hill — of the darker tone for the series, suggesting that “Secret Invasion” may offer some honest-to-goodness stakes (often missing from other Marvel properties).

These new faces join an already impressive supporting cast, including Kingsley Ben-Adir (“One Night In Miami”), Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones”), Olivia Colman (“The Favourite”), Christopher McDonald (“Hacks”), Killian Scott, Carmen Ejogo (“Alien: Covenant”). Martin Freeman (“Black Panther”) also returns in the role of Everett Ross.

In the comics, the source material the show is based on saw the Skrulls embed themselves on Earth among the government and even the ranks of Avengers replacing humans. However, it’s unknown how similar the show will be to the comic book counterpart and if Marvel will attempt to add elements of the Kree-Skrull War.

Nick Fury is confirmed to appear in Nia DaCosta’sThe Marvels,” which will focus on a trio of female superheroes dealing with a cosmic threat with Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, and newly minted superhero Kamala Khan. There is an expectation the two projects will have some plot connectivity, so don’t be surprised if we see some cameos to that end.

“Secret Invasion” is expected to drop in the spring of 2023 on Disney+. Watch the first teaser below.
