‘Street Fighter’: Legendary Taps David Dastmalchian To Play Martial Arts Video Game Supervillain M. Bison

Legendary‘s “Street Fighter” remake from “Bad Trip” director Kitao Sakurai has landed an actor to play the martial arts film’s main villain.

Despite internet chatter that actor Walton Goggins was potentially up for the role of “Street Fighter” supervillain M. Bison, previously played by the late Raúl Juliá in the 1994 live-action flick, that role has gone to genre-darling David Dastmalchian, according to new reporting from Deadline.

M. Bison is the looming threat of the “Street Fighter” franchise, overseeing the criminal organization known as Shadaloo. In the 1994 movie, he gets his hands on a group of hostages and attempts to blackmail nations toward a goal of world domination. Considering we’re working without an official logline from Legendary, we don’t exactly know what this version of M. Bison is going to be like or what will be motivating him.

However, the hulking video game version of the villain was a lot scarier than his feature film counterpart, and that could speak to why a beloved horror actor was selected to play the baddie.

Some of the other actors/characters are said to include Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, Jason Momoa as the monstrous electric-powered Blanka, Orville Peck as the Spanish fighter Vega, 50 Cent as the boxer Balrog (a video game proxy to Mike Tyson), Roman Reigns as the demonic Akuma, and comedian Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki.

Dastmalchian has acquired quite the lineup of film credits, appearing in genre projects such as “The Suicide Squad,” “Ant-Man,” “The Dark Knight,” “Blade Runner 2049,” “Dune,” “The Last Voyage of The Demeter,” and most recently seen in “The Life of Chuck.”

We can’t wait to see the actor chew the scenery in this “Street Fighter” remake, which had been previously dated by Sony Pictures for release on March 20, 2026.
