‘Predators’ Trailer: ‘To Catch A Predator’ Doc From David Osit Arrives September 19

Predators” is an upcoming documentary that explores the sensational “To Catch A Predator,” which helped to expose and spotlight the danger of online predators as the “Dateline NBC” segment attempted to lure adults seeking sexual encounters with children into a room, only to be met by cameras and Chris Hansen waiting for them to explain themselves.

That landmark of reality television is now the subject of the documentary “Predators,” which hails from director David Osit and MTV Documentary Films, which just landed a new trailer (See below).

An official synopsis for “Predators”:

A cultural sensation from its inception in the early 2000s, “Dateline NBC”’s candid-camera investigative series “To Catch a Predator” ensnared sex offenders and lured them to a film set, where they would be interviewed and arrested while cameras rolled. The show was a hit and transformed its host, Chris Hansen, into a moral crusader and TV star, while spawning a worldwide industry of imitators and vigilantes. But why did we watch so voraciously — and why do we continue to devour its web-based, clickbait-driven offshoots?

Looking back on the show and the countless franchises it spawned, filmmaker David Osit turns his camera on journalists, actors, law enforcers, academics, and ultimately himself, to trace America’s obsession with watching people at their lowest. “Predators” is a chilling, edge-of-your-seat film that delves into the murk of human nature to observe hunter, predator, subject, and spectator alike, all ensnared in a complicated web of entertainment as far as the eye can see.

The doc’s producing team consists of Osit, Jamie Gonçalves, and Kellen Quinn, with executive producers such as Jennifer Ollman, Arthur Bradford, and Chad Beck.

This newly released trailer for “Predators” can be viewed below as the doc is heading to theaters on September 19. During the Sundance Film Festival earlier in the year, “Predators” screened, The Playlist reviewed the film, and you can read our thoughts on it right here.
