Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been spending a lot of time dedicated to crusading against the push to make AI a normalized aspect in film, television, and beyond. And that passion sees AI becoming the subject of a new untitled thriller he’ll direct, starring Canadian actress Rachel McAdams (“Spotlight”) as the pic ended up being acquired by Netflix, according to a report from Deadline.
Sadly, we’re going to have to wait for concrete details about Gordon-Levitt’s mysterious AI movie, produced by Rian Johnson‘s production banner T-Street. However, what is known is the script team as Gordon-Levitt penned with “Snowden” screenwriter Kieran Fitzgerald, as the two are also producers on and share a “story by” credit with actress Natasha Lyonne, who was recently seen in Marvel‘s “Fantastic Four” reboot and in the second season of her Peacock series “Poker Face.”
Not immediately known as a director, Joseph Gordon-Levitt made his big feature directorial debut with the 2013 dramedy “Don Jon,” which he co-starred with Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, and Brie Larson in roles, and he followed that up with things like the Apple TV series “Mr. Corman.” Johnson getting invovlement with new film isn’t all that shocking as the director has a longstanding relationship with Gordon-Levitt going back to the thriller “Brick,” the the time-travelling sci-fi pic “Looper,” played an alien in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” also did minor cameos for Johnson’s “Knives Out” trilogy, and appeared in the aforementioned “Poker Face” as a guest star.
Rachel McAdams has been keeping her projects to a small volume in the 2020s with the Netflix original comedy “Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga,” “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness,” “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret,” and Sam Raimi‘s upcoming survival horror movie “Send Help“ coming to theaters on January 30.
We’ll keep our fingers crossed that we’ll end up seeing Lyonne among the cast, as we assume that Gordon-Levitt will pursue other well-known acting talent for supporting roles opposite McAdams. Stay tuned for more details on the project when they are made available to us.
