'Seven Veils': Amanda Seyfried To Play Tortured Opera Director

Actress Amanda Seyfried (“Mank”) is coming off a big Emmy win for her portrayal of disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes in Hulu’s popular crime miniseries “The Dropout.” Another upcoming streaming series on the horizon for the actress is the Apple TV+ project “The Crowded Room,” a series adaptation of “The Minds of Billy Milligan” from Akiva Goldsman that co-stars Tom Holland, Emmy Rossum, Sasha Lane, and more. With a solid batch of television work under her belt, we now have an idea of her next feature film project, and it will be in front of cameras soon.

XYZ Films announced today that Seyfried will be reuniting with Canadian filmmaker Atom Egoyan (“The Sweet Hereafter”) for a new drama set in the world of opera/theater after previously working together on the thriller “Chloe.” Production on “Seven Veils” begins soon in Toronto and will see the actress take on the role of Jeanine in the original pic. Egoyan will write and direct “Seven Veils” with a producing team consisting of himself, Niv Fichman, Simone Urdl, Fraser Ash, and Kevin Krikst.

Seyfried’s character is described alongside the film’s logline thanks to Variety:

“An earnest theater director who’s been given the daunting task of remounting her former mentor’s most famous work, the opera ‘Salome.’ Haunted by dark memories from her past, Jeanine allows her repressed trauma to color the present as she re-enters the opera world after many years.”

We haven’t seen a feature film attempt from Egoyan since 2019’s “Guest of Honour” and one of Seyfried’s more recent standout film roles was in David Fincher’s Hollywood pic “Mank” which landed her a Best Supporting Oscar Actress nomination back in 2020. Seeing the two reunite is undoubtedly exciting and, given the subject matter, has the potential to be something to keep an eye on. It’ll be curious to see what the supporting cast will look like with the production looming.
