Amanda Seyfried Joins Tom Holland In Apple Series 'The Crowded Room'

Tom Holland is coming off the crazy box office success with “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (the third highest-grossing film of all time domestically) and this weekend’s video game adaptation “Uncharted.” But, the star will soon be pivoting to television with a new drama series from writer Akiva Goldsman that is set up at Apple Studios and New Regency. “The Crowded Room” is being referred to as a “seasonal anthology” that will see its first season being set within the thriller genre that is loosely based on Goldman’s life and influenced by the Daniel Keyes biography “The Minds of Billy Milligan.”

The already exciting project received a big boost this week. Holland is getting a new co-star and director as The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Amanda Seyfriend (“Mank”) and Kornél Mundruczó (“Pieces of A Woman”) have joined the Apple TV+ streaming series. Mundruczó is set to direct all ten episodes of the first season and will executive produce too.

The new drama “will explore inspirational stories of those who have struggled, and learned to live with, mental illness successfully.” Once upon a time, Oscar-winner Leonardo DiCaprio was attached to star when it was still being developed as a feature film and would have 24 different personalities. However, this role seemingly changed hands to Holland.

He’ll play a man named Danny Sullivan, while Seyfried takes the role of a clinical psychologist facing the most challenging case of her professional career.

Directors involved at various points include James Cameron, the late Joel Schumacher, and David Fincher before this newest incarnation from Apple. Holland has indicated he is considering a break before shooting “Spider-Man 4,” and there is an expectation that Sony Pictures will want him to return as Nathan Drake for sequels to “Uncharted.” Given the hot trio of Holland, Seyfried, and the critically-acclaimed director Mundruczó, don’t be surprised when more major names join “The Crowded Room.”
