Filmmaker and documentarian Amy Berg (“Deliver Us From Evil”) is behind a new doc exploring the life of Jeff Buckley in “It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley.” The music world has long been haunted by Buckley’s amazing and unique vocal presence, making the late artist one of the more talented performers of the 1990s.
Topic Studios, Fremantle, Magnolia Pictures, and HBO Documentary Films have teamed up on the project that is heading to theaters on August 28, and they’ve provided us with a new trailer for it. It previously debuted earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival to acclaim from various critics.

Buckley, who mysteriously drowned in 1997 in Memphis, Tennessee, while swimming at the young age of 30 years old, cut the life short of the highly influential Californian musician, leaving many of his friends, bandmates, family members, and fans with broken hearts. He’s also one of the main reasons that Leonard Cohen‘s beloved song “Hallelujah” is so often covered by various artists and on singing contest shows like “American Idol.”
A logline for the pic from Magnolia Pictures:
IT’S NEVER OVER: JEFF BUCKLEY, directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Amy Berg (DELIVER US FROM EVIL, JANIS: LITTLE GIRL BLUE, WEST OF MEMPHIS), covers the life of the rising young star with an otherworldly voice and boundary-pushing artistry, who left the ’90s music world reeling when he died suddenly, at age 30, after the release of his critically acclaimed debut album “Grace.” Told through never-before-seen footage from Buckley’s archives and intimate accounts from his mother Mary Guibert, former partners Rebecca Moore and Joan Wasser, Jeff’s former bandmates, including Michael Tighe and Parker Kindred, and luminaries like Ben Harper and Aimee Mann, IT’S NEVER OVER, JEFF BUCKLEY illuminates one of modern music’s most influential and enigmatic figures.
The music doc’s main producing team consists of Ryan Heller, Christine Connor, Mandy Chang, Matthew Roozen, Jennie Bedusa, and Berg. Along with Mary Guibert, Alison Raykovich, Brian A. Kates, Michael Bloom, Jennifer Westin, Maria Zuckerman, Brad Pitt, and Ian Stratford serve as executive producers.
