‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff Series ‘Y: Marshals’ About U.S. Marshals With Luke Grimes Returning Adds Logan Marshall-Green

Yellowstone” remains the jewel of Paramount‘s television division as the Taylor Sheridan series has ended, but a spinoff show called “Y: Marshals” featuring Luke Grimes‘ Kayce Dutton is moving forward, as they’ve landed a new cast member with Logan Marshall-Green.

Not only that as Variety reports that Marshall-Green will play Pete Calvin, a friend from Dutton’s time in the military, where he was once an elite Navy SEAL.

If you missed the previous announcement, “Y: Marshals” is going to be airing on the CBS network on Sunday nights and has a 13-episode order, but we’re still waiting on a concrete premiere date from Paramount. Also, we’ll see Spencer Hudnut write and Greg Yaitanes direct the first episode, which is produced by Sheridan and sees Hudnut set as showrunner.

The outlet also adds a logline for the spinoff:

With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Dutton joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.

MTV Entertainment Studios is producing the spinoff alongside Sheridan, David C. Glasser of 101 Studios, John Linson, Art Linson, Hudnut, Grimes, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yar, Yaitanes, Michael Friedman, and Keith Cox.

Marshall-Green had recently boarded Christopher Nolan‘s “The Odyssey” (after replacing Cosmo Jarvis) with previous credits that feature the cyberpunk revenge thriller “Upgrade,” Ridley Scott‘s “Alien” prequel “Prometheus,” and Karyn Kusama‘s horror pic ‘The Invitation.”

This won’t be the first time a Sheridan project explored the world of U.S. Marshals, as his period western show “Lawmen: Bass Reeves” starring David Oyelowo explored the legendary black lawman, who is said to have inspired the beloved “The Lone Ranger” character.

Stay tuned as more actors are added to the call sheet; however, it remains to be seen if other actors from “Yellowstone” will reprise their roles in “Y: Marshals.” There is also the Beth and Rip untitled spinoff that is expected to debut next year, with Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, and Finn Little returning.
