“Backrooms” has been a massive success for A24 with an impressive $330.8 million at the global box office (as part of original horror having a bit of a moment in the sun), and they’re looking to keep that money train going as an extended cut called “Backrooms: Everything Must Go” is being released this weekend, promising an extra 15 minutes of footage for the liminal space horror flick that sees our protagonists stumbling upon a mysterious labryinth-like grouping of rooms with a unnerving origin.

With that announcement, A24 has dropped a teaser trailer for the upcoming cut, something we don’t often see studios do this closely to the original theater cut, coming off more like an extended run experiment, and we’re all for it. Hopefully, this will coax audiences who have already seen the film to come back for multiple viewings (the intention here, we imagine).
What’s next for a talented new filmmaker like Parsons isn’t exactly known. While he’s talked up the idea of exploring more originals, he’s also mentioned his dream is wanting to turn the video game “Portal” into a feature film (J.J. Abrams was once trying to get one going in the past) after recently touring the Valve offices (developers).
You can watch that new but brief teaser trailer featuring Mark Duplass for “Backrooms: Everything Must Go” below, as the extended cut heads to theaters starting on Friday (July 3, 2026). Of course, the main cast also features Chiwetel Ejiofor (“12 Years a Slave,” “Doctor Strange”) leading alongside fellow Oscar-nominee Renate Reinsve (“The Worst Person in the World”), Finn Bennett, and Lukita Maxwell.
