After the previous showrunner of “Dutton Ranch” exited the “Yellowstone” spinoff series at Paramount+, they’ve finally landed on a replacement with Benjamin Cavell set to take over the Neo-Western series reins from Chad Feehan (reportedly pushed out eariler in the year ahead of the Season 1 preimere) with production starting up in the near future after Paramount Television gave the popular streaming series a quick Season 2 renewal.
Cavell’s hiring was first revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, who is a veteran television writer in his own right with credits such as “Justified,” “SEAL Team,” “The Institute,” and “The Stand.” Certainly, a creative that feels like they could make a great contribution to that world and hopefully that their new showrunner can stick around for more than a single season (although these Paramount+ shows tend to have a revolving door of lead writers/showrunners).
We’ll see the further exploits of Beth and Rip (played by the charismatic duo of Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser), argubly the two most popular characters in the Taylor Sheridan-created franchise, as they’ve moved from Wyamoing after the Dutton empire was sold-off and the couple attempts to find a new life in Texas.
Others among the cast include Finn Little, Juan Pablo Raba, Jai Courtney, J.R. Villarreal, Marc Menchaca, Natalie Alyn Lind, Ed Harris and Annette Bening. Who they’ll be adding for Season 2 is likely the next big step in the process of the production and will be announced at a later date.
“Dutton Ranch” (season finale drops this Friday) isn’t the only ongoing mainline “Yellowstone” spinoff series as Luke Grimes (plays Beth’s younger brother Kayce Dutton, an ex-Navy SEAL) headlines “Marshals,” that he co-starred alongside Gil Birmingham, Logan Marshall-Green, Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, and Tatanka Means in the first run of episodes.
