‘The Mummy’ Trailer: Lee Cronin & Blumhouse’s Latest Horror Film Will Be Unleashed In Theaters On April 17

Not to be confused with Universal Pictures’ films or their iconic landmark installment from 1932, a new iteration of “The Mummy” hails from director Lee Cronin (“Evil Dead Rise”) and Blumhouse (known for their attempts in the past to reboot Universal’s horror library), and is heading to theaters next month thanks to Warner Bros./New Line Cinema.

With tickets now on sale, the studio has dropped what is likely one of the final trailers for Cornin’s new horror pic that attempts a bit of a twist than what we’ve seen with the previous versions that had skewed more in the action-adventure realm. Instead, leaning on tropes that we’re more accustomed to with smaller family-centric horror movies (giving the impression it could be more similar to Blumhouse’s “The Wolf Man” remake from last year).

An official synopsis for “The Mummy” via WB:

The young daughter of a journalist disappears into the desert without a trace—eight years later, the broken family is shocked when she is returned to them, as what should be a joyful reunion turns into a living nightmare.

Cronin had previously compared his new take on the undead threat to a combination of “Seven” and “Poltergeist,” in an attempt to get horror fans into a certain mindset for this reworking of the lore, “It’s an insane mashup to suggest, but [this film is] almost one part ‘Poltergeist’ and one part ‘Seven,’ but put through my lens and the way that I like to entertain people.”

Of course, it does without saying that Warner Bros. has big shoes to fill after the double-punch of “Sinners” and “Weapons” last year, becoming some of the big horror releases. Seeing them attempt to beat Universal to their fourth “Mummy” installment, coming from Radio Silence, arriving in 2028. We’ll be curious if New Line, Blumhouse, and James Wan‘s Atomic Monster (also producing Cronin’s movie) will seek other projects from the realm of cinematic monsters in the future.
