This month, Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow (“The Hurt Locker,” “Zero Dark Thirty”) returns to the military thriller genre with the highly anticipated Netflix movie “A House of Dynamite,” heading to both theaters and the streaming service. Lead actress Rebecca Ferguson reveals in a new interview what it was like being vibing and linking up with Bigelow, who is considered the top-tier director to work in this genre, also her “top bucket list director” on top of things, along with their relationship on the film
“To be honest, Kathryn has been on my top bucket list,” the actress said during a chat with IndieWire in New York. “And then, being on a Zoom, listening to her, she didn’t really give away the story. I think she was feeling out the vibe, and we vibed very quickly. And then I got to read Noah’s script, and then I realized what I was in for.”
“It’s just a click,” Ferguson added. “I had such an enormous respect for her [already]. When you don’t have to prove yourself, when there’s not a feeling of a competition and there’s someone sitting in front of you, very raw, very open about certain things and ‘I wish to work with you, cards are on the table,’ it becomes some form of a friendship. What can I bring? What could I do to help tell this story? I like her as a human being. I think she is beyond intelligent. She is kind. She’s soft. Internally, she is super-focused, but she doesn’t shove her opinion down your throat. And I think there’s an enormous power in people who can balance that act.”

Also discussed during the interview, Ferguson confirms she’ll be part of the returning lineup of actors for Denis Villeneuve‘s “Dune: Part Three” (an adaptation of Frank Herbert‘s second novel “Dune Messiah“) and returning as Lady Jessica, but cautions that there wasn’t much for her to do in it.
“I don’t have a big part in this one, [she’s] just barely in the book. I’m not sure I was supposed to be in it, and Denis had a little idea. The script is phenomenal. It’s really hard to create a film; it’s such a dense book. There’s so much to tell. [Denis] does dip in and out, and he does try, and he does want to have certain connections and tentacles to the book. Whatever Denis touches, I think, is phenomenal,” Ferguson said of returning for the third installment of Villeueve’s “Dune” trilogy.
Of course, Ferguson co-stars alongside quite the collection of acting talent assembled for the military thriller with Idris Elba, Gabriel Basso, Jared Harris, Tracy Letts, Anthony Ramos, Moses Ingram, Jonah Hauer-King, Greta Lee, and Jason Clarke. The film’s brief logline: When a single, unattributed missile is launched at the United States, a race begins to determine who is responsible and how to respond.
“A House of Dynamite” hits theaters globally on October 10 before its Netflix streaming debut on October 24. You can also read The Playlist’s review of the latest Bigelow effort right here as part of our Venice Film Festival coverage last month.
