Emilia Clarke Appreciates The 'Star Wars: Solo' Love But Denies Involvement With The 'Lando' Series

Lucasfilm and Disney might have had grand plans for multiple films if “Solo: A Star Wars Story” had been a monster success. Instead, it became a costly experiment in blockbuster filmmaking that lost money and suffered a trouble production narrative. ‘Solo’ didn’t hit financial targets given the hefty production costs due to reshoots with replacement director Ron Howard after Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired over creative differences with only three weeks of filmmaking left.

One of the film’s stars Emilia Clarke, who plays Qi’ra, recently spoke with the Happy Sad Confused podcast. While ‘Solo’ was a notable flop, the first black-eye for Lucasfilm at the box office, possible ever, host Josh Horowitz noted how many people are discovering (or re-discovering) and re-appreciating the “Star Wars” spinoff and enjoying it, thanks to Disney+ and other streaming platforms, exposing a large global audience to the film that didn’t respond to it at the time. Clarke seemed pleased with that nugget of positivity about the sci-fi fantasy film after all the gossip and news surrounding its production hiccups and reshoots.

“That makes me so happy because I loved Qi’ra. Loved her, really really did. I loved Han; I loved the story; I loved the people; I loved the experience. It was one of those ones where you know if you know too much about a celebrity, and you go and watch that movie, and you’re just thinking about how many kids Angelina Jolie has? And I feel like our movie is that. Everyone went in knowing what our dirty laundry looked like. And you couldn’t separate that gossip from the overall experience, but I’m so over the moon that people are posthumously enjoying it,” the actress told Horowitz concerning the newfound love for “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”

However, when asked about her potential involvement with the upcoming “Lando” series from Justin Simien (“Dear White People,” “The Haunted Mansion“) that was announced by Lucasfilm back in December, Emila Clarke denied being part of it but is excited for it regardless.

Clarke stating, “I’ve heard nothing. Absolutely nothing. But a ‘Lando’ show makes so much sense; give that man his own show! Yes!”

The British actress is going to be a little busy for the foreseeable future as Emilia Clarke has joined the expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe with a mysterious role in Marvel’s “Secret Invasion” series that could see her character potentially continue in various shows and films, depending on if the role is a one-off or not.

We still don’t know when “Lando” will shoot as Donald Glover is busy with his series “Atlanta,” an Amazon reboot series of “Mrs. & Mrs. Smith” with Phoebe Waller-Bridge (also in “Solo: A Star Wars Story”), and other various things in the fire. Lucasfilm likely isn’t in a huge rush as they have plenty of other “Star Wars” shows on their plate as “The Mandalorian” Season 3, “Ahsoka,” “The Acolyte,” and “Rangers of The New Republic” are still in the pipeline.
