Jake Gyllenhaal Tapped For Mysterious Guy Ritchie Movie At Miramax

Actor Jake Gyllenhaal is getting some buzz for his Netflix thriller “The Guilty” from director Antonie Fuqua (“Training Day”), a remake of the Danish language film originally helmed by Gustav Möller. He’s reportedly in the middle of lining up his very next film that will be from British filmmaker Guy Ritchie (“Snatch,” “Sherlock Holmes”).

Deadline has revealed that Jake Gyllenhaal has started negotiations for Ritchie’s mysteriously untitled next film at Miramax that is said to begin production before the end of the year.

While we’re in the dark about the film’s plot or what character the actor is expected to play, we have some idea of what kind of projects Ritchie has previously made at the studio. The last three Miramax movies from Guy Ritchie include the gangster pic “The Gentlemen,” the thriller “Wrath of Man” reuniting the director with action star Jason Statham, and most recently finished shooting his Jason Statham spy movie “Operation Fortune.” Formerly known as “Five Eyes,” that latter film will be officially released in theaters on January 21; the director’s been working at a breakneck pace these days.

Ritchie also developed the Damien Lewis WWII novel “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” into a feature film at Paramount Pictures, focusing on Britain’s first black ops commando unit and would seemingly be perfect fodder for an action flick. The director once tried to tackle a “Dirty Dozen” remake before Quentin Tarantino’sInglourious Basterds” squashed those plans.

Gyllenhaal’s other upcoming film projects include Michael Bay’s heist thriller “Ambulance,” the survival drama “Suddenly” that also stars Venessa Kirby (“The Crown”), the war drama “Combat Control” and comic book film “Prophet” with director Sam Hargrave (“Extraction”), a thriller based on the graphic novel “Snow Blind,” the video game film “The Division” co-starring Jessica Chastain at Netflix, and a film adaptation of the Robert Kirkman sci-fi comic book “Oblivion Song.”
