'Top Gun" Maverick': Listen To Lady Gaga's Song 'Hold My Hand'

Later this month, audiences will finally get to watch the highly anticipated sequel to Tom Cruise‘s beloved 1980s fighter pilot action pic “Top Gun.” There is already some early buzz on “Top Gun: Maverick” after a screening at CinemaCon 2022 in Las Vegas and seems to indicate that the extended wait, due to multiple release date hiccups, might be worth it and could deliver the goods. The film is directed by Joseph Kosinski (“Tron Legacy,” “Oblivion“) with longtime Cruise collaborator Christopher McQuarrie (“Jack Reacher,” “Mission: Impossible – Fallout“) joining the project to help both produce and work on the script.

Mulderville has posted an interview (See below) with McQuarrie, where he reveals when he officially joined the production, a few weeks before production, they all watched the 1986 movie. They eventually resisted recreating moments from the original film as much as they wanted to and instead pursued a sequel that audiences could jump into without seeing the Tony Scott-directed pic.

“We found ourselves leaning towards recreating moments from the film as opposed to creating new ground and we found time and again that the more we let go of the original movie and went into our own direction the film became more true. And there really was the possibility to make something that stood alone. It was very important to Tom and I when we would talk about ‘Top Gun’ you didn’t have to see the original movie to enjoy this one,” McQuarrie said.

Oscar-winner Lady Gaga (“A Star Is Born“) is also involved with the blockbuster sequel and has provided an original single, “Hold My Hand,” that has just been released online (See below). The move to add Gaga was likely an attempt to give “Maverick” a song that would mirror Berlin‘s big hit “Take My Breath Away” from the original and an attempt to attract a variety of moviegoers.

After more than three decades as one of the U.S. Navy’s top fighter pilots, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell continues to push his limits as a test pilot. He refuses to move up in rank because it would mean giving up flying. He is tasked with training a detachment of young Top Gun school graduates for a special mission no pilot would ever imagine. On this mission, Maverick meets Lieutenant Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, the son of his late friend, navigator Nick “Goose” Bradshaw. Faced with an uncertain future, haunted by his ghosts, Maverick must confront his worst nightmares in a mission that will require the greatest of sacrifices.

“Top Gun: Maverick” will be released on May 27 and you can listen to the new Lady Gaga tune below.
