'X-Men': Cameron Crowe Wants A Crack At A Dazzler Solo Movie

Marvel Studios is finally moving forward with “X-Men” projects. Recently, they announced that Hugh Jackman will reprise his Wolverine role in “Deadpool 3,” plus mutants like Namor appear in the upcoming “Black Panther” sequel, and mutant gene was teased for the lead character in “Ms. Marvel.” It’s unclear what Marvel’s plans are for mutants beyond that, though Kevin Feige recently teased that they’re “getting close,” but there might be some interest in tackling less exposed mutants down the line.

Director Cameron Crowe, best known for music-heavy films like “Almost Famous” and “Vanilla Sky,” recently spoke with RollingStone magazine on their podcast Rolling Stone Music Now (listen below), and they brought up Crowe hypothetically tackling a movie featuring “X-Men” heroine, Dazzler. “Throw me a Dazzler movie! Let’s do it,” he said. It’s quite a bizarre selection, given the character is a slightly more obscure mutant. When asked if he was familiar with the character, the director said, “No, but I will be today! Who should play Dazzler? I can see you have an idea for this.”

After being pressed to pick someone to play the singing mutant, Crowe landed on musician Dua Lipa.

“I’m feeling Dua Lipa for this. Tomorrow I’ll be like, ‘Yeah, I’ve been thinking about Dua for Dazzler, you know, I’ve been thinking about this for a while.’ And giving you no credit [laughs]. No, no, I think it’s cool. Doing a movie like that could be a blast. You can have character development and all that deep stuff and also have spectacle. You can do it. And it’s heading there, clearly.”

Lipa will be making her acting debut in Matthew Vaughn’sArgylle” next year on Apple TV+.

Alison Blaire, aka, Dazzler, is one of the more unique mutants as she is a pop star within that universe and was featured in Fox’s Singerverse, briefly played by “Orville” actress Halston Sage in Simon Kinberg’s final Fox-owned installment “Dark Phoenix.” At this time, there are no official plans to make a Dazzler project at Marvel, but who knows what the future holds?
