German filmmaker Werner Herzog is making a grand return to scripted features with his new project that has the cheeky title, “Bucking Fastard,” which already features Kate and Rooney Mara, their first time sharing the screen together, with two high-profile actors joining the call sheet.
A new report hailing from Deadline has revealed that Orlando Bloom (“The Lord of The Rings”) and Domhnall Gleeson (“Never Let Me Go”) have taken roles in the new pic.

The Maras will be playing Jean and Joan Holbrooke in “Bucking Fastard,” “two sisters who are so close to each other that they speak in unison, love the same man, and have the same dreams. They even make the same slip of the tongue in unison. In search of an imaginary land, the Orkneys, where true love is possible, they start digging a tunnel through an entire mountain range.”
They’re also adding the following character details for the lads: Bloom is said to be playing their rowdy ex-lover, Gareth Mulroney, and Gleeson will be Timothy, their government-issued social worker/mender, trying to help them adapt to modern life after the Holbrooke Sisters become tabloid sensations.
Herzog is reuniting with “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans” cinematographer Peter Zeitlinger and “Rescue Dawn” composer Ernst Reijseger on “Bucking Fastard.” Production that was taking place in Ireland and Slovenia wrapped over the weekend as the pic is now heading to the Cannes Film Market to find suitors to help with distribution.
HanWay Films is set to rep “Bucking Fastard” for worldwide sales and will be sharing first footage with buyers at Cannes next month.
