There can be only one! Well, not just one actor, as Henry Cavill finally has company on the call sheet for the upcoming “Highlander” reboot from director Chad Stahelski (“John Wick” franchise), as Oscar-winner Russell Crowe (“Gladiator”) has joined the reboot at Amazon MGM Studios, and United Artists.
The big casting update comes to us from Colldier, who first revealed the “Man of Steel” reunion as Crowe played Superman’s father, Jor-El, in the Zack Snyder-directed superhero movie.

Crowe is expected to be placed in a mentor role in the remake, taking on a version of the Ramírez (a Spanish immortal who spent a good chunk of time living in Japan) part previously played by Sean Connery in the original 1986 film, and the character was resurrected from the dead in the less-than-stellar sequel.
If you’re not familiar with the film and TV franchise, we follow a group of good and evil immortals, who are battling each other to death for “The Prize,” which is the ability to live out a mortal’s life. The second film tried to establish that the immortals were banished aliens from another world, but we’re unlikely to see that plot element carry over.
Ramírez is the exposition-dump of the series as he teaches Connor MacLeod, a Scottish Highlander, the ways of immortality to prepare him for the more ruthless immortals of their collective and the various rules (immortals can only be killed by their head being cut off). Once an immortal kills another, their power and strength are increased via “The Quickening,” basically a giant lightning storm.
We’re still waiting on a theatrical release date for “Highlander” and other casting additions that are expected to be announced in the coming weeks, including who will play the main villain. However, for those who have been waiting for ages for this remake to come together, this casting update should help ease those worries of another delay.
