Paramount Pictures has shared with us a new trailer for their psychological thriller and sports drama “The Cut,” which sees British actor Orlando Bloom playing a professional boxer on the road to reclaim some redemption after a career-ending bout that saw him defeated in the ring.
Releasing on September 5, “The Cut” hails from director Sean Ellis with a screenplay penned by Justin Bull and a story from Mark Lane. Irish actress Caitríona Balfe from “Outlander,” “Ford v Ferrari,” and “Belfast” has a co-starring role along with veteran actor John Turturro (“The Night Of”).
A synopsis for the sports drama courtesy of Paramount:
After a career-ending defeat, a former champion trains for redemption – but as obsession takes hold and reality unravels, he may be spiraling into something far more terrifying.
The producing team assembled for the psychological thriller consists of Lane, Leonora Darby, James Harris, Bloom, Adam Karasick, Bret Saxon, and Thomas Fanning.
Bloom is likely best known for playing the ageless elf warrior prince Legolas in Peter Jackson‘s “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” trilogies, alongside multiple installments in Disney‘s “The Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise and Ridley Scott‘s “Kingdom of Heaven,” which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary.
We’re still waiting to hear if he’ll be asked back to appear in Andy Serkis‘ “The Hunt For Gollum,” which is going to be the next big Middle-Earth adventure. As he’s been open to the idea and using VFX to help de-age him to look more like what he looked like in those original films. Serkis reprising the Gollum role currently is the only confirmed casting for the fantasy pic.
