British actress Hannah John-Kamen is set to take a starring role in “One Second After,” joining lead actor Josh Holloway (“Duster,” “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol”), a new sci-fi survival thriller based on the novel by William R. Forstchen of the same name.
The new casting report from Deadline states that John-Kamen is set to play a nurse stranded in the Black Mountain after the attack, named Makalya. Their character description adds, “Partnering with John, Makalya fights to keep the community alive as modern society unravels, offering both medical expertise and emotional resilience.”
Veteran stunt coordinator and second unit director Scott Rogers is set to helm “One Second After” with experience on big studio film projects including “John Wick 4,” Disney‘s upcoming “TRON: Ares,” “The Matrix Resurrections,” “Birds of Prey,” “Ford v Ferrari,” “John Wick 3,” “Uncharted,” the scrapped “Batgirl” movie, and “xXx: Return of Xander Cage.”
Here is the book’s original logline via Amazon:
A story which can be all too terrifyingly real…a story in which one man struggles to save his family and his small North Carolina town after America loses a war, in one second, a war that will send America back to the Dark Ages…A war based upon a weapon, an electromagnetic pulse (EMP). A weapon that may already be in the hands of our enemies.
Comic book writer and screenwriter J. Michael Straczynski (“World War Z”) penned the script with MPI Original Films‘ Rob Pfaltzgraff and Nick Reid producing as Startling Inc.’s Matt Kennedy, and Forstchen serving as executive producers.
John-Kamen is likely best known for her role as the MCU’s version of the Marvel Comics villain Ghost, who first appeared in “Ant-Man & The Wasp” and is now part of The New Avengers lineup from “Thunderbolts.” She is also expected to return as part of the massive cast of The Russo Brothers‘ “Avengers: Doomsday” (filming currently underway in the United Kingdom) and possibly “Avengers: Secret Wars,” too.
Her other credits over the years include “Black Mirror,” “Game of Thrones,” a brief cameo in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” Alicia Vikander‘s “Tomb Raider” reboot, Steven Spielberg‘s cyberpunk adventure pic “Ready Player One,” took on the new Jill Valentine role in “Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City,” and was featured in the recent “Brave New World” series iteration alongside Alden Ehrenreich.
Production on “One Second After” is set to kick off this month in Sofia, Bulgaria, and that start may telegraph that John-Kamen has completed her scenes for “Doomsday,” or there is an opening in her schedule.
