Sony Pictures is releasing “I Know What You Did Last Summer” from director and co-writer Jennifer Kaytin Robinson on July 18, and has released a brand new trailer.
The legacy horror flick stars Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Billy Campbell, Gabbriette Bechtel, and Austin Nichols. Original ‘Last Summer’ franchise actors Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt also appear.
A synopsis for the new installment of the horror franchise courtesy of Sony:
When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer…and is hell-bent on revenge. As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.
Neal H. Moritz produces alongside a team of executive producers, including Robinson, Jackie Shenoo, and Karina Rahardja. Robinson co-wrote the script with Sam Lansky and had help on the story from Leah McKendrick.
“I Know What You Did Last Summer” came months after Wes Craven’s meta-horror tale “Scream” helped to revitalize the genre and drew in a new generation of audiences to a wave of horror movies starring a group of rising talent from TV and film.
Watch the new trailer below and get stoked for the franchise’s latest iteration next month.
