‘Werewolf By Night’ Teaser Trailer: Marvel Finally Reveals 'Halloween' Special

While Marvel has set up the cosmic side of the universe, it’s only been more recently that the studio has pursued the supernatural and horror side of things with the “Moon Knight” series starring Oscar Isaac and Benedict Cumberbatch’sDoctor Strange.” But the bent towards the spooky, the strange, and the surreal gets much heavier in the upcoming Halloween special, “Werewolf By Night,” which stars Gael Garcia Bernal.

At Marvel’s D23 Expo event this weekend, Marvel—who had previously not acknowledged the series in any way or any of the early reports—finally confirmed the series and revealed the first teaser trailer for the one-off special.

The series stars Gael Garcia Bernal as Jack Russell, aka the werewolf superhero, Werewolf By Night, with Laura Donnelly (The Nevers”) rumored to be playing another rumored supernatural character Elsa Bloodstone. Shot in black and white, the special will be co-directed by composer-turned-director Michael Giacchino and Jaycob Maya. Giacchino is known for many of his Marvel scores, like the “Spider-Man” movies and “Thor: Love And Thunder,” and has spent the last few years directing shorts and getting the directorial side of his career up on its feet. It’s an interesting choice. Then again, Marvel is known for taking chances on folks we wouldn’t usually think of for these projects.

If you look closely at the trailer, you’ll also see supernatural Marvel characters like Man-Thing, so the special is definitely going for that Universal Monster vibe crossed with a little bit of a grindhouse feel.

“Werewolf By Night” also stars Harriet Sansom, Harris Daniel Watts, Eugenie Bondurant, Kirk Thatcher, and Jaycob Maya, but as to who they are playing, we don’t quite know yet. We’ll learn more surely soon enough. “Werewolf by Night” premieres October 7 on Disney+. Watch the first teaser below.
