'Willow' Series Trailer: Debuts November 30 On Disney+ [D23 Expo]

Director Ron Howard’s 1988 film “Willow” allowed Lucasfilm to play within the world of sword and sorcery. Warwick Davis, who as a young lad played a main Ewok in “Star Wars: Return of The Jedi,” got to fill the role of underdog hero. Decades later, a sequel series is headed to Disney+ courtesy of Jonathan Kasdan, the co-writer of “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” The new series will also bring back Davis in the role of the titular magician as a group of young heroes need his help.

A brand new trailer for “Willow” (see below) was dropped by Lucasfilm during their D23 Expo presentation this weekend and revealed the impressive production design as the adventure continues this fall. Disney’s presentation also announced that Christian Slater of “Mr. Robot” and “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves” had joined the cast in an unknown role. He joins other cast members on the fantasy show, which include Ellie Bamber, Erin Kellyman, Tony Revolori, and Cailee Spaeny.

Here is the show’s official synopsis via Lucasfilm/Disney:

An epic period fantasy series with a modern sensibility set in an enchanted land of breathtaking beauty, “Willow” features a diverse international cast with Jonathan Kasdan, Ron Howard, Wendy Mericle, Kathleen Kennedy, and Michelle Rejwan serving as executive producers. The story began with an aspiring magician from a Nelwyn village and an infant girl destined to unite the realms, who together helped destroy an evil queen and banish the forces of darkness. Now, in a magical world where brownies, sorcerers, trolls, and other mystical creatures flourish, the adventure continues, as an unlikely group of heroes set off on a dangerous quest to places far beyond their home, where they must face their inner demons and come together to save their world.

“Willow” begins streaming this November 30 exclusively on Disney+.
