‘Death Stranding’ Animated Movie Lands ‘Raised By Wolves’ & ‘Prisoners’ Writer Aaron Guzikowski

Last month, it was revealed by “Death Stranding” creator and game designer Hideo Kojima that he was pursuing an animated project alongside the live-action movie at A24 that has writer/director Michael Sarnoski (“Pig,” “A Quiet Place: Day One”) attached.

Now there is an update to share on the animated movie. Deadline is reporting that the animated project is going to be a feature film with Aaron Guzikowski set to write it, as relayed to them officially by Kojima Productions and L.A.-based animation studio Line Mileage, the latter is expected to be handling the animation duties.

Guzikowski feels like he’ll be an excellent fit for anything connected to “Death Stranding,” given his credits include being the creator of the Ridley Scott off-world android series “Raised By Wolves” at HBO, Denis Villeneuve‘s kidnap thriller “Prisoners,” and the recent remake of the French prison colony drama “Papillon.”

“I love the world of ‘Death Stranding,’ it’s so creatively freeing, so beautifully dark and yet hopeful; I’m so excited and honored that Hideo Kojima, whose work I’ve long admired, has invited me to dwell within his creation, to birth new stories into this fertile, mind-bending universe,” said Guzikowski said in an official statement. “Drawing and animation have always been near and dear to my heart, so to finally get to play in this space is a dream come true.”

The pic is said to be an “original story,” separate from the live-action movie, that unfolds in the same universe. It is also being compared to licensed IP animated projects like “Predator: Killer of Killers,” and the gestating “John Wick” movie announced during CinemaCon, focusing on the “impossible task.”

Sam Porter Bridges (Norman Reedus), a courier who must deliver supplies to remote colonies known as Knot Cities, which make up what is left of the United States of America, now known as the United Cities of America, and reconnect them via a wireless communications network.

Having both live-action and animated features in the works is quite an ambitious venture from Kojima. Hopefully, we will learn more details about both in the coming months.
