Amazon MGM Studios has been taking big swings and has another actor-focused remake on the horizon, with a new reimagining of the David Mamet thriller “House of Games” (Mamet’s directorial debut) that has tapped heavyweights Viola Davis and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II to take on the lead roles.
The news of the tantalizing pairing comes from Deadline, which revealed that Davis and Abdul-Mateen II will not only star but they’ll both produce the gestating project as well through their respective production banners Juvee Productions and House Eleven10.

Released back in 1987, the original Neo-Noir movie starred Lindsay Crouse (“The Insider”), Mamet’s wife of the time, and Joe Mantegna (“Bugsy”) with a supporting cast that featured J.T. Walsh, Meshach Taylor, a young William H. Macy, and magician/actor Ricky Jay. That version saw psychiatrist Margaret Ford, who gets caught up in the world of gambling while trying to help one of her patients, Mike Mancuso, deal with anxiety.
Some of Mamet’s other work in Hollywood over the years features credits such as “The Postman Always Rings Twice,” “The Untouchables,” “Glengarry Glen Ross,” “Hoffa,” “Wag The Dog,” “Ronin,” and “Hannibal.”
Abdul-Mateen II most recently took on a key role in David Fincher‘s follow-up to “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” that focuses on a new adventure for Brad Pitt‘s Cliff Booth.
Unfortunately, the report doesn’t mention either a writer or a director; we’ll have to wait for those announcements down the line. We shouldn’t be shocked if “House of Games” ends up attracting some high-profile creatives and directors lining up to work with these talented actors. Another solid project coming from Amazon.
