Having enjoyed a recent comeback on streaming platforms of late, comedian Eddie Murphy has landed another streaming project. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Murphy will star opposite fellow funnyman Jonah Hill (“The Wolf of Wall Street,” “21 Jump Street,” “Superbad“) in an untitled family comedy that Kenya Barris will direct (“#BlackAF,” “Black-ish“) for Netflix. Hill, who made his writer/director debut in 2018 with “Mid90s,” co-wrote the script with Barris.
Murphy had been seemingly retired in recent years, but streaming dollars lured him out of his sabbatical when some of his dream projects could come to fruition. Netflix released the comedic biopic “Dolemite Is My Name” in 2018, and Amazon Studios reportedly spent $125 million to land “Coming 2 America.” Both pictures were helmed by Craig Brewer (“Hustle & Flow“).
THR describes the comedic movie as “an incisive examination of modern love and family dynamics and how clashing cultures, societal expectations, and generational differences shape and affect relationships.”

Barris might be best-known from television but has plenty of feature film writing credits under his belt with “Coming 2 America,” Robert Zemeckis‘ “The Witches” remake, the latest “Shaft” movie, and “Girls Trip.”

Hill has been mostly acting in smaller movies and reportedly has other filmmaking endeavors in the works. Another recent project is the upcoming Netflix release “Don’t Look Up,” a disaster comedy led by Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, from filmmaker Adam McKay (“The Big Short,” “Vice“).
