‘A Colt Is My Passport’: Sope Dirisu, Tim Roth, Jack Reynor, Lucy Boynton & More Join Gareth Evans Remake Of Yakuza Hitman Thriller

Action filmmaker Gareth Evans is set to do an English-language remake of the 1967 Takashi Nomura-directed Yakuza thriller “A Colt Is My Passport” at Amazon MGM Studios/Orion Pictures, and the cast has been assembled for the crime pic.

Amazon MGM Studios’ Orion Pictures announced today that “A Colt Is My Passport” will be led by Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù (“Gangs of London”) with a solid supporting casting that consists of Tim Roth (“The Hateful Eight”), Jack Reynor (“Midsommar”), Lucy Boynton (“Bohemian Rhapsody”), Victor Alli (“Bridgerton”), Ewan Mitchell (“The Last Kingdom”), Burn Gorman (“Pacific Rim”) and Noah Taylor (“Edge Of Tomorrow”) according to a new report from Deadline.

The original movie was adapted from the novel Tobosha by Shinji Fujihara, which focuses on a Yakuza contract killer and a thriller plot surrounding the assassination of another underworld boss after an embezzlement scheme is exposed.

Evans’ new version of “A Colt Is My Passport,” which is filming at Great Point Studios in Cardiff, Wales, is going to be a period version as it will instead be “set in 1978 Detroit and tell the story of Colt, a Vietnam veteran turned contract killer, who goes on the run after assassinating a gangland boss.”

Certainly, excellent fodder for a filmmaker like Evans, who has tackled similar crime pics with the two “Raid” movies and his recent Netflix effort “Havoc.” His visceral visual style and grittiness for shooting action sequences have become Evans’ calling card, and we can’t wait to see some footage from the project.
