James Gunn Teases Blue Beetle Showing Up In Future ‘Peacemaker’ Seasons: “I Won’t Say You’re Not In Luck”

When it was announced that the newly formed DC Studios would be resetting and launching the DCU, it was revealed that Xolo Maridueña‘s “Blue Beetle” would carry over, and James Gunn is now teasing he could make a return in future seasons of “Peacemaker.”

Gunn is back on the press tour to promote “Peacemaker” season two and was directly asked by IMDb if we could expect Blue Beetle returning to the DCU in something like the hit HBO Max series, which recently added the Justice Gang from “Superman” (including Supergirl) with a retcon for Season 1’s finale.

“Well, you know, I won’t say you’re not in luck,” Gunn teased of the potential DCU crossover in future episodes.

Released back in 2021, the solo “Blue Beetle” movie was directed by Angel Manuel Soto, who was once poised to enter the world of “Transformers” for Paramount Pictures after reports mentioned his involvement. The movie seemed to do well with both critics and audiences quality-wise, while it didn’t make a huge amount of money ($130.7 million when most 2021 releases were struggling to begin with, due to the impact of COVID-19). Ultimately, “Blue Beetle” was one of the few pre-DCU projects that would be saved from being scrapped entirely, and likely helped that the movie was mostly a standalone effort.

That said, Maridueña isn’t a stranger to the world of television, having been seen in Netflix‘s “Cobra Kai” and is long-rumored to have joined the cast of their “One Piece” series (teased, but not official). So, in theory, Blue Beetle showing up in the crossover-friendly but mature HBO Max show wouldn’t be the most surprising thing and could be a great way to reintroduce the character.

Most recently, Gunn has been teasing that a mysterious DC Comics series is on deck (another potential project Blue Beetle may show up?), and that his “Superman” follow-up installment (expected to be a Superman/Supergirl/Justice Gang crossover) is next for him, hinting it could begin shooting next year if everything comes together.

Either way, it sounds like fans can expect Blue Beetle to come back, eventually.
