Marvel Reveals ‘Ironheart’ Series Starring Dominique Thorne; American Chavez Confirmed For ‘Doctor Strange 2’

One of the more interesting announcements is confirmation of a long-gestating rumor that Marvel Studios had been developing a project featuring whiz-kid Riri Williams. “Ironheart,” the second of the newly announced series coming to Disney+, stars Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, a genius inventor who creates the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man.

It’s unknown if any other superheroes will mentor Riri in her show. It seems like there will be certain shows like “Ms. Marvel” where younger heroes might be allowed to have their own solo stories before joining larger teams like the Young Avengers. I’m curious, given the premise of Don Cheadle’s “Armor Wars” series, if War Machine and Ironheart may end up crossing paths at some point.

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness,” debuting March 25, 2022, is currently in production starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Xochitl Gomez joins them, portraying America Chavez, a new fan-favorite from the comics. Directed by Sam Raimi, the mind-bending adventure connects to the events of “WandaVision” and the upcoming “Spider-Man” film.

Gomez’s America Chavez is likely another member of the Young Avengers that Marvel is attempting to assemble one project at a time.

The Multiverse is seemingly going to play a large in various upcoming films and series; it’ll be interesting to see if Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man will have his final bow in the Marvel Studios project given that Kevin Feige has confirmed “Spider-Man 3” will have a connection to the Doctor Strange sequel. Benedict Cumberbatch has a role in the Spidey film as the Sorcerer Supreme. A recent deal between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, included a solo film distributed by Sony and one more film for Disney; we now have to assume that Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness might be the final project for Holland before that deal expires.

‘Doctor Strange 2’ is officially filming in the United Kingdom at the moment. There is some sense with “Spider-Man 3“s Jon Watts officially directing “Fantastic Four” that Marvel’s solo Spider-Man films might be coming to an end.
