Many ’90s kids remember the early days of 3D console and PC video games, which include the Sony PlayStation title “Twisted Metal” and the “Death Race 2000” inspired game was recently adapted into a live-action comedy streaming series at Peacock from co-creators Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers of the “Deadpool” film franchise. The second season is coming later this month, and the streamer has dropped a brand-spanking new trailer spotlighting the next round of episodes.
Anthony Mackie, Marvel’s new Captain America, leads the series that was co-created by showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith, with Stephanie Beatriz, Joe Seanoa, Will Arnett, Anthony Carrigan, Mike Mitchell, Saylor Bell Curda, Patty Guggenheim, Tiana Okoye, Richard De Klerk, Michael James Shaw, and up-and-coming Canadian comedian Lisa Gilroy also on the call sheet.
Of course, the original video game is centred around a deadly version of a demolition derby where drivers use tricked-out vehicles to kill off opponents, who have various weapons and abilities linked to what they are driving.

An official logline for “Twisted Metal” from Peacock:
Following the revelations in the season one finale, John and Quiet find themselves entering the deadly TWISTED METAL tournament, a sinister demolition derby hosted by a mysterious man known as Calypso. As they try to survive an onslaught of dangerous new foes and familiar faces alike, including the murderous clown Sweet Tooth, things get complicated for John when he reunites with his long-lost sister, the vigilante Dollface.
The stakes couldn’t be higher as John Doe (Mackie) and Quiet (Beatriz) risk their lives to compete in a dangerous demolition derby tournament. The prize? A single wish, their greatest heart’s desire, granted. The only problem is that sixteen other drivers have wishes of their own.
Mackie had been spending a good chunk of time shooting the second season in the Toronto/Hamilton area in Canada, as was recently seen in “Captain America: Brave New World” and is currently filming “Avengers: Doomsday” in the U.K. for The Russo Brothers. He’s also expected to be involved with “Avengers: Secret Wars” and is keen to get going on “Captain America 5,” whenever Disney is ready to go.
Time to get pumped for the next season of “Twisted Metal” by watching the new trailer for the genre-bending comedy series below.
