Oscar-nominee Greg Kwedar, who helmed and co-wrote the prison drama “Sing Sing,” is gearing up to shoot a new fantastical comedy, “Possum Song,” that has tapped rising star Miles Teller to play a Nashville singer, Eddie, who makes a Faustian deal with a magical possum.
Isaac Adamson penned the original screenplay for “Possum Song,” which has landed at FilmNation Entertainment (“Anora,” “Conclave”) as the pic is heading to the Cannes Film Market with the outfit handling pre-sales alongside Ethos, the production banner of Kwedar, and Clint Bentley.
Here is the film’s logline, thanks to the report from Deadline:
Eddie (Teller), an overconfident Nashville star who is hiding a dark secret: He stole the songs for his hit debut album. Now, with a new wife and a baby on the way, Eddie must write his follow-up solo or risk losing everything. But just when things seem most hopeless, Eddie discovers a musical genius in the form of a magical possum with whom he strikes a dangerous Faustian bargain.
Teller isn’t a stranger to playing musicians as his breakout role as an aspiring professional drummer in Damien Chazelle‘s debut “Whiplash” put the young actor on the map leading to a string of projects such as “War Dogs,” “Only The Brave,” “Fantastic Four,” “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Spiderhead,” and his most recent performance in Scott Derrickson‘s genre thriller “The Gorge” starring opposite Anya Taylor-Joy.
Given Nashville’s setting, we’ll be curious to see if any real country stars will make cameos and what other actors Kwedar will cast around Teller’s Eddie.
