Apple’s ‘F1: The Movie’ Starring Brad Pitt Crosses $600M At Box Office, Becomes Highest-Grossing Original Of 2025

After some rather expensive misfires at the box office, Apple Original Films is seeing some major success with “F1: The Movie,” crossing $600 million globally, making it their most profitable streaming feature to date. All thanks to their distribution deal with Warner Bros., to give “F1” a traditional wide theatrical release.

The “F1” box office total has hit a decent $603.4 million, placing it between James Gunn‘s “Superman” ($604and Tom Cruise‘s “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” in the Top 10. Also, it is worth noting that “F1” is the only original in that group of feature films of sequels, remakes, and reboots, making it one of the most successful originals of the year, as Ryan Coogler‘s vampire gangster flick “Sinners” is currently in the #12 spot with a solid $365.8 million.

Reports vary as the thrilling sports pic co-starring Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, and Javier Bardem is said to have cost Apple between $200-250 million on the production budget side of things, and depending on the total money spent (including marketing), could place the film well into the profit range after previous wide releases such Martin Scorsese‘s true-crime thriller “Killers of The Flower Moon” ($158.7 million), and Ridley Scott‘s epic wartime biopic “Napoleon” ($221.3 million) struggled at the box office, despite their expensive pricetags with similar budgets.

Apple is continuing its working relationship with director Joseph Kosinski and mega-producer Jerry Bruckheimer on a mysterious UFO thriller, alongside teases from the filmmaker about a desire to have a crossover between “F1: The Movie” lead character Sonny Hayes (played by Pitt) and Tom Cruise‘s Cole Trickle from “Days of Thunder,” acting as a follow-up/sequel and an “Interview With A Vampire” reunion. Another high-profile project from Kosinski that is in the works is a new “Miami Vice” film at Universal Pictures with a script penned by Dan Gilroy (“Nightcrawler”) and is expected to return for the gestating “Top Gun 3.”

Pitt is currently shooting David Fincher‘s “The Adventures of Cliff Booth” (a follow-up to Quentin Tarantino‘s “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood“) and is also attached to star in Edward Berger‘s upcoming A24 marriage drama “The Riders.” The return of Sonny Hayes, if any, likely isn’t coming anytime soon.

We don’t know if this means Apple will collaborate more often with traditional studios like Warner Bros. for more theatrical releases, but this certainly won’t hurt those chances and their push for more creating more originals.
